New ownership brings reimagined store experience, expanded assortment, and deep community investment to Utah's South Valley
-- Second Wind Run Co., the rebranded successor to RunGr8 Running Center, has opened at 2608 W 12600 S in Riverton, Utah, marking the beginning of a new chapter for run specialty retail in the South Valley.
The rebrand follows the June 2026 acquisition of RunGr8 by Chris Baker, a lifelong competitive runner and former footwear industry investor who relocated from New England to Utah to lead the transformation. Under new ownership, the store has undergone a comprehensive reimagination — from its brand identity and physical store experience to its product assortment and community presence.
"We are thrilled to be starting the next chapter for run specialty retail and the running community in the South Valley," said Baker. "Our vision is to become a trusted, one-stop shop for gear, expertise and community for runners of all ability, gymgoers and walkers across the South Valley."
A Reimagined Store Experience
Second Wind Run Co. has invested significantly in transforming the in-store experience since the acquisition. The store features a completely refreshed interior design, including a new footwear wall and curated photographs of local Utah running landscapes and runners — grounding the space in the natural surroundings and community it serves.
The store also features an Aetrex 3D foot scanning system and treadmill gait analysis, offering customers a level of expert fitting expertise that goes well beyond what is available at traditional athletic retailers.
The store's assortment has been expanded substantially, now carrying leading brands including Brooks, Hoka, Asics, Saucony, On Running, Altra, Topo, Salomon, Mizuno, Shokz, Garmin, Roll Recovery, and Nike — which Second Wind Run Co. is carrying for the first time. A curated online assortment of thousands of SKUs is available at secondwindrun.com, with real-time inventory and the same expert product curation customers receive in store.
Community at the Core
Second Wind Run Co. has moved quickly to establish a meaningful community presence in the South Valley since the acquisition. The store hosts weekly community group runs, private fitting events for local organizations, and has partnered with Foundation Physical Therapy on the inaugural No Veterans Left Behind 5K, scheduled for October 2026 in Bluffdale.
The store has also developed relationships with local high school cross country programs, CrossFit and HYROX communities, and physical therapy and podiatry practices across the catchment — offering expert shoe fitting as a complement to medical treatment for patients with foot and gait-related conditions.
"The South Valley is one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States and a genuine hotbed of running talent and passion," said Baker. "This community deserves a thriving local run specialty store that is deeply invested in it. That is what we are building."
